Every person desires to have a house with a garden space where he can grow trees and plants to his liking – but little do we know that certain plants are not considered auspicious and should not be planted in the house .Nevertheless there are many plants that are auspicious and are suggested that they are planted so that one can reap their benefits and positive values. Come, let us know the auspicious and the inauspicious plants that are commonly found and grown.

Tulsi Tree
The Basil [Tulsi] plant is the most auspicious plant and is considered an epitome of Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that in whichever house the Tulsi plant is grown, served and prayed to, Lord Vishnu bestows the house with his benevolent gaze. The Tulsi plant has the power of negating any negative energy in the house – but at the same time care should be taken that the plant is never kept/grown in the southern section of the house – because then ,instead of providing benefits it does the opposite – it can harm the household and its members, in many ways.

Bail Tree
The “BAIL TREE” [Wood-Apple Tree’ is the favorite of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva, himself, resides in the tree. Any house that has the favorite Bail Tree in its campus shall always be the resident house of Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth – and this wealth and prosperity shall continue down generations. It also removes dangers and calamities that could affect the house and its members.

The “SHAMI PLANT” is also considered very auspicious. There are many rumors and false notions related to the Shami plant, as such, people avoid planting it in their houses. In astrology, the ‘Shami’ tree is related to Lord Saturn and to appease Lord Saturn, and the malefic effects of the planet Saturn, it is advised to pray and serve the ‘Shami’ plant. Placing the plant on the right side of the main entrance has many positive benefits; light a mustard oil lamp beneath the plant regularly – it removes the malefic effects of the planet Saturn and brings about a marked improvement in the health of the individual, who is a victim of the adverse effects of Saturn. Special prayers to the ‘Shami’ plant on ‘Vijay Dashmi’ [Dusshera] have a beneficial effect, in the form of providing inexhaustible wealth and prosperity to the server.

Ashvgandha Tree
The ‘ASHWAGANDHA’ plant is also one of the auspicious plants that should be grown in the house; it nullifies all negative effects of improper Vaastu. It improves the quality of life of the members of the house and instills in them a more positive outlook. It is also known for its medicinal values and is widely used in the Ayurveda form of medication.

Awla Tree
The Gooseberry Tree [Aamla Tree], if grown in the Northern or the Eastern section of the house gives magical results ; It is a panacea for all your troubles – and is the fulfiller of the individual’s wishes – praying regularly to the ‘Aamla’ tree ,absolves a man of all his sins.

Ashok Tree
The ‘Ashoka Tree’ is another such auspicious tree that can be planted in the house; true to its name – it is the remover of all sadness/sorrows [A_SHOK – without sorrow] – it promotes happiness and affection amongst the residents / members of the family.

Shewtark Tree
‘SHWETARK GANPATI’ is a plant which secretes milk – according to Vaastu principles , milk-secereting plants are considered inauspicious and should not be planted inside the home premises ; but this plant is in direct contradiction to the established norms – this plant should be served and prayed to using turmeric ,rice and water – as the plants grows ,so does the prosperity of the house – peace and happiness prevails – it is also believed that wherever this plant grows, the houses in its vicinity are always blessed. Tales also suggest the presence of hidden wealth in the ground in the vicinity of the plant or a member of the house will have a wind-fall of wealth thru unexpected sources.

Gudhal Tree
‘Gudhail” [Hibiscus] – is related to the planets Sun and Mars ,according to astrology – it can be grown anywhere in the house ,but care should be taken to provide adequate sunlight – Offering water, with the Hibiscus flower dipped in the water , to the Sun promotes the health of eyes and bones and also spreads name and fame of the person – If there are legal matters pending or hurdles in the path of begetting property/wealth ,offer a red Hibiscus flower to Lord Hanuman ,every day in the morning – issues shall be resolved at the earliest. Offering the red Hibiscus flower to Goddess Durga regularly, removes all obstacles and hurdles from one’s path.

Nariyal Tree
‘Naariyal’ – [Coconut Tree] is also considered very auspicious – it promotes name –fame and respect.

Neem Tree
Growing a’ NEEM’ Tree in the north -west section of the house is considered very auspicious – usually people do not prefer to grow a Neem tree in the house but on the contrary ,it is a very beneficial tree – it gives out positive energy which energizes the whole house and the environment. It is said in the Hindu scriptures, that a person who plants seven Neem trees in his life time , begets Shiva Lok [abode of Lord Shiva] after his death an death ; any person who plants three Neem Trees , is destined to bliss and happiness for hundreds of years in the abode of the Sun God [Surya Lok].

Banana Tree
A Banana plant has its own place of importance due to religious reasons. Prayers are offered to a banana plant on a Thursday and whenever a religious ceremony is held, banana leaves are used. This [Brihaspati]; Planted in the north east corner, it promotes financial gains and development; if a Tulsi [Basil] plant is grown alongside a banana plant –the positivity of the banana plant grows many fold; the benevolent gaze of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, both are bestowed on the individual / house. It is believe, that if you study under the shade of a banana tree, you not only tend to learn more but also faster.

Bans Tree
A Bamboo plant has the capacity to reach your success and prosperity to greater heights; is one of the auspicious trees, suggested for growing in the house.

Normally, any plant that secretes milk or is fruit –bearing is not advised to be grown in the house – but the pomegranate [Anaar] plant and the Chinese Orange [Naarangi] plant, are an exception. They are considered very auspicious and the harbinger of peace and prosperity. Those desirous of wealth, happiness and prosperity and continuity of their lineage should plant a pomegranate tree in the Eastern section of the house; it gives most auspicious benefits and results – but planting a pomegranate tree in front of the house has been considered, most auspicious. Never plant a pomegranate tree in the middle of the house - offering the flower of the pomegranate tree, dipped in honey to Lord Shiva on every Monday, bestows the blessings of Lord Shiva and even the vilest of circumstances and hurdles are nullified.

It should be noted that whosoever maintains a garden in the east ,north, west and north-east sections of the house shall more often than not, be wealthy , prosperous ,charitable ,soft-spoken and of a religious disposition ; whereas a person who maintains a garden in the south, south – east ,,south-west and north-west sections of the house, he shall always have financial distress and issues related to progeny and child birth / survival – he, himself, would have a short life span and would be disease ridden ; he is involved in nefarious activities and is subjected to shame and defamation in this world and the world beyond – it should always be kept in mind, when preparing a garden space or any tree / plant in the house.
